Bon Voyage:  You Have to Let Go to Grow

My daughter came home from school one day last fall and announced that she wanted to go to Europe during the summer with People to People International Travel Programs.

Enthusiastic that she wanted to venture out and see the world, I agreed that it was a great idea. Then, she told me it was for 18 days. And... I still thought it was a great idea. Why? I was excited to see a child who often prefers to spend time at home and who often feels uncomfortable interacting with groups or strangers extend herself beyond her comfort zone. I admired her for looking beyond the moment and looking toward something greater than her fears and trepidations. She seemed to understand that in order for her to grow, she has to let go.

What a powerful lesson for each of us! In order to grow, we must let go of fear, anxiety, limited thinking, destructive patterns, self-doubt, and a host of other things. We must grab hold of life, hope, passion, and infinite possibilities, especially if we want to manifest our greatness. Greatness has never been achieved by remaining in the small boxes of our lives. We must branch out and experience the new and catch a glimpse of the wide array of choices that are available to us. For sure, we might be uncomfortable and experience a little stress; but, think about it. Since most people experience some type of discomfort even while remaining in their “comfort zones” (because they are busy worrying about having to leave their comfort zone), why not let go and grow.

  • What are you holding onto?

  • What is keeping you from manifesting the best of who you are?

  • What steps do you need to take?

As the time approached for me to let my daughter go 4,000 miles from home (did I say for 18 days?), I began to feel what most parents feel when their children leave them (at least for the first time) - excitement mixed with sadness, happiness mixed with questions, comfort mixed with discomfort. I had an overwhelming desire for her to grow beyond measure with a hope that it would not be painful growth. And, you know what? I still thought it was a good idea! And, I knew and know how critical it is to have someone in your corner who supports you letting go. Even when we desire to live our fullest potential, we need a cheering squad and someone to guide us through the process. It’s what helps to make the journey easier.

I hope you have the same.

I invite you to let go and grow. You deserve to live your life to the fullest potential.

Peace, Love, and Blessings
